Tello’s December Special is a Phone Plan with 45GB for $35/Month

Tello Mobile has launched what they are calling a "December Special" limited time plan offer called Unlimited Plus. The plan includes 45GB of data at up to 5G data speeds before throttling and 10GB can be used for hotspot. You also get free calling to over 60 countries. Videos stream at 480p. Taxes and fees are extra and vary by location.

Tello has not specified how long you'll get to keep the plan if you sign up for it. I'm inclined to believe it will be for life. The plan is being shown mixed in among Tello's other rate plans and it has its own broadband disclosure. The terms and conditions also mention the data allotment and rate as being per month and billing period. I've reached out to Tello for clarification on this and expect to receive an answer within a couple of days. I'll update this post when I do.

UPDATE: Tello has responded stating that you'll be able to keep the plan as long as you keep your account on autopay and don't downgrade to another plan.

Prior to this update, Tello's flagship plan was their $25/month option with 35GB of data at up to 5G data speeds and 5GB available to use for hotspot.

Tello Mobile is an MVNO that uses the T-Mobile network for coverage.

Using the BestMVNO phone plan comparison tool and T-Mobile MVNOs page we can see that this is really a good deal. There aren't any other independent non-carrier owned brands/T-Mobile MVNOs offering more data for less in a monthly plan. However, there are two providers willing to offer you more data for less or at about the same price point if you are willing to prepay a year in advance for an annual plan. US Mobile's flagship unlimited plan will get you 100GB of monthly 5G data for $32.50/month when you fork over $390 for a year's worth of service. Likewise, Lyca Mobile will offer you 60GB of 5G data each month for $37/month when you prepay $444 for their annual plan.

The only way to get more data for less on the T-Mobile network would be to stick with a carrier owned brand. Right now, T-Mobile's Ultra Mobile brand is offering its truly unlimited 5G data plan for $20/month when you prepay for 12 months of service upfront for $240. Metro by T-Mobile offers unlimited data for $25/month when you bring your number over to their network. No annual plan needed.

“The only way to get more data for less on the T-Mobile network would be to stick with a carrier owned brand.” Ummmm….US Mobile, anyone? 100GB of high speed data, 50GB of that useful for hotspot, international data, pick your network…$32.50/month.

That’s an annual plan. Tello is a monthly plan. The difference between those two plans is discussed in the article. Please read it again.

“There aren’t any other independent non-carrier owned brands/T-Mobile MVNOs offering more data for less in a monthly plan.”

After explaining that in the article, the follow up is

“The only way to get more data for less on the T-Mobile network would be to stick with a carrier owned brand”
