On April 2 2026 Gen Mobile quietly upgraded its prepaid plans. The EchoStar-owned MVNO, which uses the AT&T and T-Mobile networks, announced that all core plans now include more high-speed data at the same prices.
New Gen Mobile Plans
The list below summarizes the key features of each plan and what was updated. Taxes and fees are included with the first month’s purchase only. Upon plan renewal, you will be charged taxes and fees.
All plans include international calling to 100+ destinations and unless noted otherwise, data speeds slow to 128Kbps after the high-speed allotment has been reached.
$10 Plan – 2GB
- Data: 2GB of high-speed data
- Hotspot: Allowed, drawing from the 2GB data bucket
- Roaming: Canada & Mexico roaming and international talk credit are not included at this price point.
- What’s new vs. old: Data doubled from 1GB to 2GB while keeping the $10 price. Pay 3-months in advance pricing increased from $9/month to $10/month
$20 Plan – 8GB
- Data: 8GB of high-speed data
- Hotspot: Up to 5GB
- International talk credit: $10 monthly credit to call destinations not covered by the 100-country unlimited list.
- Canada/Mexico roaming: $10 monthly roaming credit, good for 250 minutes, 250 texts and 2GB of data while travelling.
- What’s new vs. old: Data increased from 5GB to 8GB. Hotspot use is now capped at 5GB rather than the full data allotment.
$30 Plan – 15GB
- Data: 15 GB high-speed data
- Hotspot: Up to 10GB
- Talk credits: Includes $10 monthly international talk credit and $10 Canada & Mexico roaming credit.
- What’s new vs. old: Data increases from 11GB to 15GB. Hotspot use is capped at 10GB instead of the full data allotment. Pay 3-months in advance pricing increased from $26/month to $27/month.
$40 Plan – 25GB
- Data: 25GB high-speed data
- Hotspot: Up to 10GB
- Talk credits: $10 international talk credit and $10 Canada & Mexico roaming credit.
- What’s new vs. old: Data jumps from 17GB to 25GB. Hotspot use is now capped at 10GB rather than the full data allotment. Pay 3-months in advance pricing increased from $34/month to $36/month.
$50 Plan – "Unlimited" (45GB high-speed)
- Data: 45GB high-speed data; speeds reduce to 512 kbps thereafter
- Hotspot: Up to 10GB
- Talk credits & roaming: $10 international talk credit and $10 Canada & Mexico roaming credit.
- What’s new vs. old: Pay 3-months in advance pricing increased from $38/month to $43/month.
A $60 plan has been eliminated. The $60 plan previously included everything the $50 plan had but hotspot was 20GB instead of 10GB.
How Do Gen Mobile’s Plans Compare?
Gen Mobile’s refreshed plans look better on paper than they did a week ago, especially at the low end. But once you start comparing them side-by-side with competing offers, it becomes pretty clear they still leave a lot to be desired.
Tello Mobile
Tello Mobile remains the better value for customers who are mainly shopping for data. Gen Mobile’s new $20 plan now includes 8GB, up from 5GB, but Tello offers 20GB for the same $20 price. At $15, Tello also offers 10GB, which undercuts Gen Mobile’s new $20 tier pretty badly.
Gen Mobile’s $10 plan is more respectable now that it includes 2GB instead of 1GB, but that only brings it in line with Tello’s own $10 option. Gen Mobile fixed one of its weaker entry-level plans to be price competitive, but that's pretty much about it.
US Mobile
US Mobile also continues to offer a lot more value. Its Unlimited Starter Dark Star plan costs $25 per month when paid monthly or $22.50 per month when purchased annually, yet includes unlimited 5G data, 20GB of hotspot, and broader international perks than Gen Mobile offers on any plan.
Editor’s Take
Gen Mobile absolutely improved these plans. Doubling the $10 plan from 1GB to 2GB, raising the $20 plan from 5GB to 8GB, and bumping the $30 and $40 plans to 15GB and 25GB respectively are all meaningful upgrades. However, I don’t think this changes Gen Mobile’s overall standing in the prepaid market very much. They didn’t do anything to differentiate from other providers or to be a real standout on value. Tello continues to offer more data for the money, while US Mobile is giving customers a much stronger overall package on AT&T’s network for significantly less. And while Gen kept monthly rates the same, it hid price raises within its 3-month offers, and that is disappointing.
