Vouch Mobile has launched as a new prepaid wireless brand with two "unlimited plans", annual pricing, eSIM activation, and service enabled through the Reach MVNE platform.

Vouch is advertising unlimited wireless starting at $22/month when customers pay annually for a plan with 10GB of high-speed data and 5GB of hotspot. The underlying network Vouch uses has not been disclosed although their website says they are powered by the nation's largest 5G network which implies T-Mobile. However, this contradicts what's seen when you search for the brand on Google as seen in the screenshot below.

Vouch Mobile Plans

Vouch Mobile has launched with two plans: Premium and Elite. Both are sold with monthly and annual billing options. Annual billing gets the lowest advertised monthly equivalent pricing.

Vouch Premium

Vouch Premium is the entry-level plan.

It is advertised at $22/month with annual billing. Vouch’s site lists the annual cost as $270/year, which actually works out to $22.50/month (not the advertised $22). Customers who pay monthly are charged $30/month.

The plan includes:

  • Unlimited talk and text
  • 10GB of high-speed data before throttling
  • 5GB hotspot

Vouch Elite

Vouch Elite is the higher-tier plan.

It is advertised at $30/month with annual billing, billed at $360/year. Customers who pay monthly are charged $40/month.

The plan includes:

  • Unlimited talk and text
  • 30GB of high-speed data before throttling
  • 5G+ priority access
  • 20GB of mobile hotspot
  • HD Video streaming

Elite is Vouch’s better value on paper. For an extra $8/month over Premium on annual billing, customers get triple the high-speed data and four times the hotspot allotment.

Both plans support eSIM although other plan features remain a bit unclear. For instance, Vouch’s broader unlimited data disclosure says the first 22GB of data each month is provided at 5G speed, then data is reduced to a maximum of 2Mbps for the rest of the month. The same thing is said in a press release announcing their launch. However, the Premium plan card and broadband facts label both list 10GB of data for the Premium plan and 30GB for Elite. Shoppers should assume the plan-specific 10GB and 30GB allotments apply unless Vouch clarifies otherwise. Their broadband labels also note extra date is billed at a rate of $5 for 500MB.

Pricing Is Simple, But The Fine Print Needs Work

Vouch is positioning itself around simple pricing. The company says its plans have no contracts, and do not require credit checks.

But there are a few details shoppers should look at closely before signing up.

The first issue that needs clearance is a real coverage map that helps users to better identify what network they use. They also need to fix the discrepancies on their homepage that are suggestive of both AT&T and T-Mobile's network. As previously mentioned they state they use the largest 5G network, which implies T-Mobile. But they also have a plan that includes 5G+ priority access which would seem to indicate AT&T's network. As far as I'm aware, Google Fi is the only T-Mobile MVNO to offer priority data access.

The second issue is Vouch says plans include taxes and fees. But its broadband facts labels list a 6% cost recovery fee and government taxes as varying by location. That also needs clearer treatment, especially for a brand emphasizing transparent pricing.

The third issue is the unlimited data disclosure. Vouch’s footer disclosure says the first 22GB of data each month is at 5G speed before speeds are reduced to 2Mbps. But the actual Premium and Elite plan details list 10GB and 30GB of data, respectively. Those plan-level details are more specific, but the inconsistency should be cleaned up.

How Vouch Compares To Other MVNOs

Vouch is launching into a very crowded prepaid market.

Neither of Vouch Mobile's plans scream value, regardless of what network they are using or if they are annual plan or not.

Better value can be found through other MVNOs. For instance, Tello offers 20GB of data for $20/month and 50GB for $25/month. US Mobile offers unlimited data on AT&T's network for $25/month, taxes and fees included and at the same price 70GB on T-Mobile's network.

Then there are carrier-owned prepaid and flanker brands. Visible, Total Wireless, Metro by T-Mobile, Cricket Wireless, Mint Mobile, and others have pushed prepaid pricing lower over the last couple of years. Some of those brands now offer truly unlimited high-speed data options down to as low as $20/month and at times $15/month on promo, with stronger brand awareness and larger marketing budgets.

Editor's Take

Vouch Mobile's launch should have been straight forward: two simple plans, annual discounts, eSIM support, no contracts, and no credit checks. However, their website is littered with discrepancies that muddy their launch. And there's also the question of whether or not Vouch offers enough data for the price and where they actually fit into the market. Unless their throttled data speeds are really 2Mbps nothing about this brand seems to stand out. They don't really seem to be competing on price, and they lack a true differentiator to help them grab market share.
