Walmart Family Mobile has launched a new plan that includes unlimited talk, text, and data with 10GB at 4G LTE speeds for $49.88/month. The MVNO operates on T-Mobile's network.
As a special bonus, for a limited time, those who signup for this new plan will get a free streaming movie rental every month for VUDU.com. The free movie will come in the form of a $7.00 VUDU credit and must be used within 30 days of receiving it. Most movies that I checked out seem to cost $4.99-$5.99 to rent so it seems that the movie credit being issued is designed to try and get you to spend more money on the service since you'll have up to $2 left over in your account after your rental.
The $7.00 account credit will be awarded after 16 consecutive days of service on the $49.88 plan. VUDU is a video on-demand service owned by Walmart.
Walmart's Family Mobile Plans also include Data Saver, which is essentially Walmart's term for Binge-On. Data saver reduces video streams to DVD quality at about 480p+ thus saving you your high speed data allotment. The feature can be turned on or off at will. Supposedly the Data Saver option will be offered for a limited time.
Two other plans are also offered by Walmart Family Mobile. Both plans include unlimited talk, text and data with varying amounts of high speed data. The plans are priced as follows:
- $29.99/month - 1 GB 4G LTE
- $39.88 5 GB 4G LTE
Once your high speed data allotment is used up, speeds are reduced to 2G which should range between 64-128 kbps. Tethering is included on all plans. Taxes and fees are not included and can range anywhere between 6%-28% depending on where you live. Walmart Family Mobile's plans are post paid with no contract.
Walmart's lowest price plan currently comes with a special offer for families. Family plan subscribers can save $5 on each line for up to a total of 5 lines.
