Verizon Prepaid recently launched a couple of deals. Customers that switch to Verizon Prepaid can get a truly unlimited data plan for $50/month. And subscribers that need a phone can get one for up to $100 off with the coupon code CELEBRATE. The $50 unlimited plan offer does come with some fine print, and there are several phones available for $100 off. Wave7 Research recently detailed the promos in a report the firm sent out to its subscribers. Let's have a closer look at them.
$50 Unlimited Plan Offer Details
The Verizon Prepaid $50 unlimited plan offer requires customers to port in to Verizon's $65 unlimited plan. The customer's first month of service will be at the plan's regular rate. After that, the price is $55/month or $50/month with autopay billing enabled. Customers can keep the discounted rate for as long as they remain active on the plan. Normally, subscribers must remain active on the plan for more than 9-months to get the plan at that rate through Verizon's customer loyalty discount program.
Subscribers can also elect to sign up for Verizon's Unlimited Plus plan for $75 for the first month, and get it for $60/month for life in month two and beyond with auto-pay billing enabled. This plan also normally requires customers to stay active on it for more than 9-months to get it at the $60/month rate.
Both Verizon unlimited plans include unlimited talk, text, and high-speed data. They also include unlimited texting to over 200 countries and usage in Mexico, Canada, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. International data is reduced to 2G data speeds after more than 500MB has been used in a day. The two plans differ from each other in that the $65 plan does not include mobile hotspot, it's a $5/month add-on. The hotspot add-on gives customers 10GB of hotspot at high-speeds before throttling to 2G data speeds. Videos on the $65 plan stream in 480p.
The $75 Unlimited Plus plan includes everything the $65 plan offers plus adds hotspot and 5G Ultra Wideband coverage. Customers in an Ultra Wideband area get unlimited hotspot access with up to 4K UHD streaming. In all other areas, hotspot is limited to 10GB at high-speeds before throttling to 600Kbps and videos stream in 480p.
This promo is scheduled to last until 12/31/21. It is available online only.

“This offer is more straightforward than the carrier’s former online offer of the third month free with port-in. This is a good example of a carrier trying to reduce churn via autopay and reducing transaction costs via online activation.” -- Jeff Moore, Principal of Wave7 Research
Unless data deprioritization on Visible and US Mobile is a serious issue – and should we assume it would be any better on Verizon Prepaid? – it seems like this “$50” plan is a little underwhelming.
First, it’s pricier than either US Mobile or Visible even after the Verizon discounts kick in. Autopay and a port-in are required for the fifty bucks to happen. Hotspot access costs extra; really? And there are those pesky little taxes and fees.
Not to keep kicking this dead donkey, but it does seem like Verizon is reluctantly half-way competing with a couple of other carriers, including itself.
I totally agree. I’m on Visible now 4 months. Its been great. The 5G is a mixed bag or should I say a hot bag of… The 4G is very dependable. The best part is its unlimited. I doubt I’ll more than 3Gigs in a month. I was paying more $ elsewhere with a cap at 7Gigs. I’m happy with Visible at $40 all inclusive.
