US Mobile's Unlimited Premium Dark Star plan has undergone multiple changes since its launch on February 11. Namely, the plan was marketed as being truly unlimited with the inclusion of truly unlimited hotspot usage. However, within days, unlimited hotspot was effectively removed. US Mobile updated their terms to define excessive hotspot usage as "The user exceeds 200 GB of hotspot usage within a billing cycle or 25 GB in a single day."
Excessive usage could get your line shut off.
Recently, US Mobile updated those terms again to reinstate unlimited hotspot but with speed tiers:
- First 100GB at full speed
- An additional 100GB capped at 8Mbps
- Beyond 200GB, unlimited at 3G data speeds (600Kbps)
Other Key Changes to the Dark Star Unlimited Premium Plan
1) Multi-Network Feature Update
Another recent change is to US Mobile's multi-network feature. It allows you to add another line to your account when you have an unlimited premium plan so that you can switch between networks as needed. Currently, the feature is free but may cost $15/month at the end of March.
Subscribers that are using Dark Star Unlimited Premium as their secondary line will be subjected to data caps. The terms now state:
"On all three networks (Dark Star, Warp, Light Speed), the child line will be capped once combined data usage across both the child and primary (“parent”) lines is 100 GB; hotspot on the child line will be capped once combined hotspot usage across both the child and parent lines is 50 GB."
This means that Dark Star Unlimited Premium only offers "unlimited high-speed data" when used as your primary line.
2) Excessive Usage Policy Update
US Mobile has also updated their terms and conditions to add another excessive use qualifier:
"However, all usage remains subject to our Acceptable Use Policy, and excessive or abusive usage that negatively impacts network performance, including repeated or excessive speed tests, may result in throttling, capping, or termination of service at our discretion."
Emphasis mine on the speed tests qualifier as that is a new term that did not exist when the plan first launched and it did not exist on February 24, 2025, the last time the Wayback Machine captured US Mobile's terms and conditions page.
Is US Mobile Enforcing These New Terms Retroactively?
There is some concern that US Mobile may be applying these new terms retroactively to previous customer usage, resulting in account terminations.
An X user that goes by the name "yellmapper" claims they received a termination notice from US Mobile for violating the terms and conditions. According to screenshots from their account dashboard, their data usage was as follows:
Total Usage: 281GB between February 12 and March 7, 2025.
Biggest usage days:
- February 12: ~75GB
- February 19: ~75GB
- February 20: ~30GB
The dashboard shows that more than half of this usage came from February 12 and 19. Yellmapper says they did mmwave speed testing when first signing up for the plan. This appears to be why we see heavy data usage on a few days during the first week of yellmapper's service.

I cannot independently verify the validity of yellmapper's claims as to if their data usage really came from doing speed tests or if they may have done anything else against US Mobile's terms and conditions.
Yellmapper does claim they did not use their SIM in devices or other ways that violates the terms such as trying to replace their home internet with it.
Another X user has claimed they use more data than yellmapper and also do speed tests but have not been cut off.
US Mobile's CEO has stated on reddit that they are not a company to do consistent speed tests with and that you should switch to Cricket or postpaid if that's your thing. But he has also sent mixed signals previously stating that doing loads of speed tests is ok, before back tracking on that. He also claimed that as of (around February 27) fewer than 25 people were running excessive speed tests trying to game the system but they had to make changes to stop those behaviors. So it's not clear how many customers may have actually had their service terminated as a result of policy changes.

Legal & Consumer Concerns
If US Mobile is indeed retroactively applying new policies to past usage, this raises ethical and potentially legal concerns and I am disappointed in their policy. Based on the company’s February 24 terms and yellmapper's claims, it would seem that yellmapper did not appear to be in violation of them at the time of their usage so they should not have been disconnected. Fortunately, US Mobile has at least agreed to give yellmapper a refund. Still, US Mobile's updated terms are rather vague in some areas, allowing them to potentially take action against other customers as they see fit.
Editor's Take
US Mobile does still provide excellent value to subscribers. You get a lot of data and other unique features to use for your money. However, the company now has an established track record of changing plan terms and features shortly after launch. Therefore, I have to recommend that users wait a few weeks before signing up for new US Mobile plans or features until the company demonstrates a commitment to maintaining stable terms post-launch. And of course, customers unhappy with the possibility of running into unstable plans and terms should simply look elsewhere for their wireless service. There are dozens of MVNOs and other providers on the market to pick from. BestMVNO's phone plan search tool will help you find them.
