Tello Mobile has just launched a limited time promotion. New customers can get unlimited talk, text and data with the first 1GB at high speed free for one month. The promotion is a re-launch of one that Tello ran last month.
The Fine Print
This deal is for new customers only. Those interested have until 10/31/18 (updated: offer has been extended until 11/7/18) to subscribe and take advantage of this offer. If you subscribed to Tello at any time in the past, you are ineligible for this promotion.
Tello calls the plan that it is giving away for free its Value Plan. Besides what has already been described, the plan also includes mobile hotspot and unlimited calling to Mexico, Canada and China. The plan is regularly priced at $14/month plus tax, so that is what you'll pay if you choose to keep it at the end of your free month. You could also upgrade or downgrade to another plan at the end of the trial. A few popular Tello plans are as follows:
- Economy Plan - $10/month - 200 minutes, 500MB of LTE data
- Smart Plan - $24/month - unlimited talk, 3GB LTE data
- Data Heavy Plan - $39/month - unlimited talk, 10GB LTE data
All plans listed also include unlimited texting, mobile hotspot and unlimited data with the specified amounts at 4G LTE data speeds. Once the plans high speed data allotment has been consumed, data speeds get reduced to 64 Kbps.
Taxes cost extra on all Tello Mobile plans. When I reviewed Tello's Smart Plan, taxes in my area came out to $2.26/month. Taxes of course will vary based on your location.
If you don't like any of Tello's pre-configured plans, you can always custom build your own. Data plans without talk are allowed, although free texting is included with all plan configurations.
