In an attempt to further disrupt the MVNO and wireless industries, Mint Mobile has announced some changes to its service. Mint Mobile has announced that it will be tripling the size of its customer service team. This is certainly a welcomed change, as customer service is typically a weak point in the MVNO industry. Other highlighted changes include a new $5 trial starter kit and an expanded money back guarantee. To increase brand awareness, the company has also created its first ever TV commercial.
Mint Mobile's $5 Trial Starter Kit
Mint Mobile's new $5 trial kit will allow prospective customers to test the service for 7 days before making a full commitment. The trial kit includes 100MB of 4G LTE data, 100 text messages, 100 minutes of talk and two SIM cards. (Update: the kit now includes 250 units of each feature instead of 100. The Amazon product listing (link 2 paragraphs below) still shows 100 units but product reviews show 250, and Mint Mobile's website (link also 2 paragraphs down) confirms 250 units are included).
The trial kit seems well thought out, as the two SIM cards allow you to try the service without having to transfer your number over. Mint Mobile says if you like the service, you can use the second SIM card to port your number over with. If you port over, the $5 you paid for the trial kit gets credited back to your account so that you can use it with your Mint Mobile plan of choice.
Mint Mobile's trial kit can be purchased through the Mint Mobile app or from Amazon. At the moment it is not offered directly through the Mint Mobile website. (Update: 7/31/18 - the starter kit can now be purchased directly through the Mint Mobile website. )
Share With Friends SIM Cards
Mint Mobile is now including additional SIM cards with the purchase of any SIM card kit and plan. The company is so confident that you'll love its service, it wants you to easily be able to share it with friends. The bonus SIM card comes with a free 7 day trial that you can give to your friends or family. Mint Mobile is calling the program "Share the Love."
Improvements To Customer Support And Money Back Guarantee
Customer Support
Besides tripling the size of its customer service team, Mint Mobile has announced @MintMobileCares which is available on Facebook and Twitter. The new social media support pages will give customers a chance to get their questions answered directly through their social media platform of choice.
Mint Mobile has also launched a new community moderated forum located at https://community.mintmobile.com/. (Update: 11/7/2020 - Mint Mobile's forum will be closing down on 12/11/2020).
Money Back Guarantee
Effective immediately, all Mint Mobile plans now come with a 7 day money back guarantee. If a subscriber is unhappy with their service, they can cancel it within the 7 days and get a full refund minus shipping and handling fees. Previously the money back guarantee was only available on the 3 month trial plans.
