Google Fi has added a new wireless plan to its lineup. It's a $60/month "unlimited" plan called "Simply Unlimited." It's basically a stripped-down version of Google's more expensive "Unlimited Plus" plan that costs $70/month. The MVNO announced the plan today in a blog post.

The new Simply Unlimited plan comes with the same amount of high-speed data as the Unlimited Plus plan, 22GB, but removes a lot of the extras. It does not include international data, hotspot, Google One cloud storage, or even the option to use the plan with data-only devices. A chart detailing the differences between the two plans is below.

2-Lines$45$60
3-Lines$30$50
4-Lines$30$45
5-Lines$30$45
6-Lines$30$45

Taxes and fees cost extra. After 22GB of data gets consumed during a billing cycle, data speeds are reduced to 256Kbps for the remainder of the billing cycle. Additional high-speed data is available as an add-on priced at $10/GB. Video streaming is limited to a resolution of 480p. Data is provided over 4G LTE and 5G networks where available. Google Fi operates as an MVNO on T-Mobile, Sprint, and US Cellular. Subscribers will automatically switch to whichever network is providing the best coverage at a given moment in time. WiFi hotspots are also used for supplemental coverage.

Promotional Offers Include $100 BYOD Credit

Google Fi was founded in 2015 and originally launched as "Project Fi." It's rather unique in the MVNO market as subscribers have access to multiple networks at once. To celebrate the new plan launch, Google Fi has also announced a new promotion. Customers that port-in and bring their own phones over to Fi will get $100 back in bill credits when they use the code SAVE100 at checkout and pay for their first month of service in full. The promotion ends on May 6, at 11:59 PM PST.

In addition to the BYOD promotion, Fi is also offering up to $400 off the purchase of a Samsung Galaxy S21, S21+ and S21 Ultra. To qualify for the discount, customers must be new to Google Fi, port-in, activate a plan, and stay active for 120 consecutive days. For previous phone promotions, Fi required at least 90-days of consecutive service. So this change allows Google to keep customers on board for longer. Google Fi phones are sold unlocked and ready for use with other providers. Existing Fi customers are eligible for the same promotion, except they only get $300 off the phones. Google Fi offers quite a few other phones available with large discounts. You can view all the offerings here.

Seems pretty unattractive compared to the true unlimited (and cheaper) plans at US Mobile and Visible or the similar but much cheaper offerings at Mint Mobile and others. Or am I missing something?

I see; thanks for the clarification.

While this $60 plan might provide a marginal advantage against non-Fi programs in its theoretically less-variable data speed and slightly “better” multi-network coverage, its bare-bones limitations (no hotspot, no international data, no data-only sims, etc.) still make it hard to see why anyone would choose it instead of the much more attractive $70 standard plan. And if cost is a major consideration any of the alternatives that I mention in my comment seem way more attractive.

Or maybe that’s just me.

Mint. They…The GOOD thing about MINT.. Moving along If there is any reasonably close price to visible do that one. Or if you are your own tech and use your phone from 9 pm to 5 am. And have a back up track fone My friends visible service is just unstable too often. They had to have raised it but they were borderline scam according to BBB. US Mobile is solid. I don’t even like telling everyone about it but here they are. A guy cribbing US Cellular is pretty funny considering they don’t operate in Blue States. They won’t provide postpaid in MA but cover NH pretty much 100. I put my Boston Zip Code intothe coverage map and at thev3td numbertold me to try a competitor. Not 1 legitimate place to buy time nevermind a store.. US Mobile is better than the 3 main ones but if you can’t use CDMA it’s 5 dollars more for GSM because T MOBILE is building up its prepaid system.
