AT&T Prepaid has launched a new offer targeting national retail shoppers. New lines activated together can get two lines on the Unlimited Max plan for $35/line plus taxes and fees. The plan normally sells for $55/month per line after a $10/month autopay discount.
Featured retail outlets where you'll find the plan marketed include Walmart and Target. A screengrab shown below is of a banner on Walmart's website pitching to shoppers that they can "double up & save" with Unlimited Max.
AT&T prepaid's Unlimited Max phone plan offers the following features:
- Unlimited data at 5G data speeds, but only the first 50GB includes premium priority data where your data speeds won't temporarily slow down compared to other customers on the network when it gets congested.
- 25GB of hotspot data
- Mexico and Canada roaming, with a limit of 25GB/month in Canada before data speeds are reduced to 512Kbps
- HD video streaming
- 100GB cloud storage
This offer does have some fairly restrictive and borderline strange fine print. Here's what you need to know:
- Both lines of service must be activated at the same time
- No re-enrollment in the plan will be allowed if you switch plans or cancel service
- The offer IS NOT available with in-store activation/phone offers
- If you add another line to the plan or remove a line you'll lose the $35/line rate and pay the plan's standard rate
If you want this offer from AT&T Prepaid you'll have to pick up a SIM kit or eSIM card from Walmart, Target, or other national retailers that carry the brand either online or in-store. You may also be able to buy at https://www.att.com/prepaid-activate/.
A Comparatively Weak Effort From AT&T
Compared to new offers from Total Wireless where switchers from T-Mobile prepaid brands can get an unlimited plan for $15/line, or Mint Mobile where customers can get up to 4 lines free when they switch from AT&T or Verizon, or even Metro's seemingly standard $25/month BYOD unlimited plan, this is kind of a weak and too restrictive an offer from AT&T. Every major carrier prepaid brand is pushing at least one monthly unlimited plan for $25/month or less for single or two or more lines, but AT&T remains a holdout unless you want to prepay for a year of service as a new subscriber on Cricket Wireless. Cricket Wireless offers an annual plan for $300/year ($25/month average) that comes with unlimited data. However, that plan is not compatible with multi-line accounts.
