Xfinity Mobile has updated its wireless plans. It's top tier plan remains priced at $50/month and is now called "Premium Unlimited." Previously at this price point, the plan was called "Unlimited Plus." Key differences between the Unlimited Plus plan and the new Premium Unlimited plan include the following:

  • Upgraded 5G data allotment - Premium Unlimited comes with 100GB of data at up to 5G data speeds before possible throttling. The Unlimited Plus plan it replaces included 50GB.
  • More hotspot - Premium Unlimited includes 30GB of full speed hotspot data before throttling to 3G data speeds. Previously, 15GB was included.
  • Spam protection - Premium Unlimited has Xfinity Call Guard to help block spam calls
  • Free Phones and Elite Upgrade - Get free phones AND upgrade your phone up to twice a year at a discount even when it's not fully paid off
  • WiFi PowerBoost - iPhone 12s and newer, and select Samsung phones will receive a data speed boost to speeds up to 1Gbps when connected to an Xfinity hotspot or your Xfinity Home internet with an XB7 or XB8 internet gateway

The Premium Unlimited plan will also include 4K UHD streaming. The outgoing plan was advertised as having streaming at 1080p, but I believe Xfinity did offer 4K UHD streaming at least at one point when a device was connected to Verizon's 4G UW network.

One additional thing that could be different is the outgoing plan was advertised as having data speeds reduced to 5Mbps download and 2Mbps upload once the high-speed data allotment was reached. The new Premium Unlimited plan doesn't have that disclaimer, but rather says after 100GB your data speeds may be temporarily reduced during times of network congestion. So this plan may actually include truly unlimited 5G data, something independent MVNOs aren't typically able to offer. If so, this would be the first Verizon MVNO that I'm aware of to be able to offer such a plan.

Xfinity Mobile's base unlimited plan with 30GB of 5G data for $30/month seems unchanged. However, there has been a change to Xfinity's By the Gig shared data plans which started at $20/month for unlimited talk and text with 1GB of 5G data. The plan no longer appears to be highlighted on Xfinity's website, and they appear to be trying to phase that plan out. An Xfinity Mobile help and support page says that as of April 15, "the By the Gig data plan will only be available through our assisted sales and support channels." Current customers on the plan will not see any changes and will be able to keep it. Newer customers, at least online, will be directed to the more expensive plan options.

Phone Discounts

Xfinity Mobile is offering 5G phones "On Us" to new and existing Premium Unlimited plan customers. With a qualifying trade-in subscribers will receive up to $830 to put towards the latest devices from Apple, Samsung, and others. Currently, the Google Pixel 9, Motorola RAZR, and iPhone 16 are just some of the devices available for free. However, a 24-month device payment plan agreement is required to get the "free phones." Number porting is not required. Customers that cancel their lines or try to accelerate their phone payments will lose any remaining monthly credits they may have. Customers that don't have a device to trade-in can save up to $400 instead.

Current subscribers can now trade in their phones up to twice a year to get a discount on a new phone. If their device is paid off in full, they'll be eligible to receive the maximum discounts that Xfinity offers. If you still have a balance on your phone, it will be forgiven when trade it in but you won't be able to receive the maximum discount available on the new device you wish to upgrade to. Phone upgrades less than 60 days apart are not allowed.

Xfinity Mobile is marketing its Premium Unlimited plan to prospective customers by telling them they'll be able to cut their bills in half with it compared to T-Mobile, Verizon and AT&T. Xfinity Mobile's website says it offers "all the features" and at "half the price" before tossing out the comparisons to AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon.

Xfinity is currently offering the Premium Unlimited plan bundled with 400Mbps home internet for $50/month for a year through at least 6/23/25. They also advertise a free unlimited 5G mobile line "on us" when bundled with a 300Mbps or faster home internet plan. Xfinity Mobile recently launched a TV ad to support this home internet bundle offer which you can check out below.

One caution to anyone who is considering these plans and who has never before dealt with Comcast/Xfinity – spend a little time on Comcast’s web site and get a feel for the kind of “customer service” and “support” that you’ll be signing up for.
