Coming soon, another Sprint MVNO.
The new MVNO is being launched by two millionaire millennial partners. It is due to exit beta testing in just a few weeks and it goes by the brand name Wing.
Wing's cell phone plan model closely resembles that of Google's Project Fi, where "dynamic pricing" is in play. That means that customers will be refunded at the end of the month for any unused data that they may have in their account.
Wing's pricing however is significantly cheaper than Google's Project Fi. Pricing for smartphones starts at just $20/month for unlimited talk and text with 1 GB of hard capped data. An unlimited LTE high speed data plan priced at $70/month is the top plan offered.
Summary Of Wing's Cell Phone Plans
A full summary of Wing's cell phone plans is below. All plans include unlimited talk and text. It's possible that pricing will change after the service exits beta testing, but this is what it looks like right now.
- $12/month - basic phone plan only, not for smartphones. Includes unlimited talk and text with 128 MB of 3G data.
- $20/month - 1 GB of data
- $27/month - 2 GB of data
- $34/month - 3 GB of data
- $50/month - 5 GB of data
- $66/month - 7 GB of data
- $70/month - unlimited LTE data. Data prioritization policy applied after 22 GB of high speed data has been consumed in a month. This means data speeds may be temporarily slowed down during times of heavy network congestion.
All of Wing's phone plans used with a phone that supports that feature also include HD voice, Wi-Fi calling, voicemail, visual voicemail, 3 way calling, short code authentication, and mobile hotspot/tethering.
International data is also available as a plan add-on. It is priced at $13/GB and is available for use in over 135 countries. International data speeds are capped at 3G.
Taxes and fees are not included with the prices shown. Wing makes it visibly clear on their website that depending on where you live, taxes and fees may add another 5%-10% to the cost of your phone bill.
In addition to offering service, Wing will also sell smartphones. Currently the company has the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S8 available for purchase to go along with nearly every iPhone model around starting with the iPhone 5s. Customers can opt to pay in full for a device if they so choose, or opt for a monthly lease.
Pricing for iPhones starts at $150 or $7.00/month with financing. A Samsung Galaxy S7 can be had for $429 or $18/month with financing.
Bring your own phone is also supported.
More About Wing And Its Founders
Wing was founded by 27 year old David Arabov and 31 year old Jonathon Francis.
In 2015 the duo sold their first startup, Elite Daily, for $50 million to the Daily Mail. Elite Daily was described as being a Huffington Post for millennials.
After leaving their first startup behind, the pair traveled across the world independently of one another. Upon returning to the USA, each was met with a cell phone bill littered with high roaming charges. That is what triggered the idea for Wing.
Wing's commercial launch in November is set to take off with a creative marketing blitz geared towards giving the company visibility among mass market shoppers.
The company's beta program resulted in 3,000 subscribers within the first 3 days of launching.
