Total Wireless is starting the new year by refreshing its Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) 50% off promotion that originally launched in September 2024. Previously, the company highlighted its $50/month "Total 5G Unlimited" plan as being available for $25/month. While that discount still remains available to new single-line subscribers who bring their own compatible phones, the marketing push for January has shifted to spotlight a lower-priced option. Now, Total Wireless is featuring its $40/month "Base 5G Unlimited" plan as the main offer, advertising it at 50% off or just $20/month.

This change in focus is part of Verizon Value brands “New Year, New Savings” campaign that officially went live on January 2. Visitors to the Total Wireless website will now see promotional banners showcasing the $40 plan at $20/month. All Total Wireless single-line plans remain eligible for the 50% off discount for those who bring their own device, but the shift in attention illustrates the company’s emphasis on attracting a broader base of subscribers at a lower entry price.

In conjunction with this refreshed marketing approach, Total Wireless has also repurposed a television commercial that originally touted the $50 plan for $25/month. The revised ad now highlights the cheaper $20/month offer to appeal to users who desire service on Verizon's network with fewer frills. The more expensive plan includes features not available on the base plan such as priority data, 1080p video streaming, a 6-month Disney+ subscription and unrestrained access to Verizon's 5G Ultra-Wideband network. This marketing refresh also helps to keep Total Wireless in the mind's of consumers in a marketplace flooded with prepaid carriers vying for wallet share.

The 50% off rate is available to new single-line subscribers with unlocked compatible phones. Taxes and fees are included, and Total Wireless’s promotional rates are locked in for five years. An end date for the offer has not been specified.

Overall, this “New Year, New Savings” campaign from Verizon’s Value brand portfolio, which includes Total Wireless, focuses on consumer demand for lower-cost, straightforward service options. By extending its 50% off BYOD promo across the lineup and highlighting its $40 plan at $20/month, Total Wireless is making an aggressive play for bargain hunters who still want the reliability and coverage of the Verizon network.

The offer extension is also inline with what some other brands have done for the new year. For instance MobileX, and Mint Mobile have also recently extended what were holiday offers. Mint Mobile continues to offer its flagship 40GB/month plan for $15/month to new customers. MobileX extended its holiday offers of giving customers free bonus data equal to whatever monthly data allotment they purchase, and by increasing the data allotment on its $24.88/month plan to 199GB.
