The Roundup

In case you missed it, popular Verizon MVNO "Page Plus Cellular" has now finally been taken over by TracFone.  What will become of their service remains to be seen.  TracFone has recently gone on quite the acquisition spree as they also own Net 10, Straight Talk, and Simple Mobile to name a few.  Running under so many different brand names, you'd have to think at some point they'd like to start consolidating.  This can't be the most cost efficient way to run a company but somehow they manage as they've been able to expand.  It will be interesting to see what becomes of all these "brands" over the next year or two.

In other news, the UnCarrier, T-mobile has been experiencing good growth as of late.  So big is their growth, that in the 4th quarter they added over 1.6 million net subscribers compared to a loss of 32,000 in the 4th quarter of 2012 and reduced postpaid churn from 2.5% to 1.7% in that same time period.  It seems getting rid of annual service contracts and allowing easy phone trade ins and upgrades is paying off big and pretty quickly after there implementation not too long ago.  Now t-mobile has changed the game again by offering to pay your ETF if you switch to their service from any of the other Big 4 carriers.  In a few short months we shall see what this does to their bottom line and customer base.
