Mint Mobile is running a limited-time offer aimed at customers currently on competing networks. Subscribers of AT&T, Verizon, or their MVNOs can get up to four free lines when they switch to Mint Mobile. The offer is not available to customers who have had a number active with Mint Mobile in the past 90 days. This is the first new and big promo push from Mint Mobile since being acquired by T-Mobile in May.

The way the promo works is that subscribers must all be porting their numbers in from either AT&T or Verizon or their MVNOs, this includes the primary line. The primary line must pick and pay for a 3-month plan on an introductory rate and they'll automatically have a free line added to their shopping cart. Up to three more lines can be added for free with the same plan. All lines must be activated within 45 days. After the three-month introductory rate offer is up, each line must convert to a paid plan.

In addition to the free lines, Mint Mobile is also offering free premium activation support with the promo. Customers taking advantage of the deal can call into Mint Mobile for help porting their phone number, activating and setting up their account, or canceling their current service which may include joining a phone call with you to either Verizon or AT&T to help make sure things go smoothly. Mint Mobile also says it can help you transfer your personal data to a new phone if need be, including moving your apps, photos, and other files. However, I am skeptical of how much help they can really provide with personal data transfer given there are no stores with hands-on support that subscribers can go to for help.

Since March, Mint Mobile has been offering new customers any Mint Mobile plan for $15/month for three months. The free line offer is stackable with the any plan for $15/month deal.

Mint Mobile's starter plan is normally priced at $15/month and includes 5GB of high-speed data before data speeds are throttled. Three other plans available for $15/month to new customers include:

  • 15GB plan: Regular price $20/month
  • 20GB plan: Regular price $25/month
  • 40GB plan: Regular price $30/month

The best value offered is clearly on the 40GB plan. If you have a family of up to five people or have four friends to add to a plan you'll pay just $45 plus tax and fees for three months of service while they pay nothing (or share the cost with you). And each line will get 40GB of high-speed data before throttling to 512Kbps. Once the offer ends, each line can either port out or renew at one of the following rates.

Mint Mobile Plan Renewal Rates
3-Mo6-Mo12-Mo
5GB$25/mo$20/mo$15/mo
15GB$35/mo$25/mo$20/mo
20GB$45/mo$35/mo$25/mo
40GB$40/mo$35/mo$30/mo

Mint Mobile has run many TV ads over the last few years with Ryan Reynolds, who was a brand co-owner and at least for the time being remains a part of the team with T-Mobile. No TV ads have been released yet to market the new offer, however, Mint Mobile and Ryan Reynolds have put a new video ad out on social media highlighting it. You can watch it below.
