Verizon Prepaid has updated its data only plan offers. There are new data only plans out and they now come with $30 multi-line discounts. Customers with multiple lines can get a 5GB data only plan for as little as $10/month with a multi-line discount. Select plans include access to Verizon's ultra-fast 5G Ultra Wideband mmWave network.

Verizon Prepaid's Data Only Plans Explained

Here's a table highlighting the differences between the new data only plan offerings:

Verizon Prepaid Data Only Plan Updates
5GB25GB100GB150GB
Single Line ($)$40$60$80$100
($) For Additional Lines$10$30$50$70
5G Ultra WidebandNoNoYesYes
Hotspot/Router Streaming720p720p4k UHD*4K UHD*
Tablet Streaming1080p1080p4k UHD*4k UHD*

*4K UHD streaming only available when connected to 5G Ultra Wideband network, otherwise streaming on routers/hotspots maxes out at 720p and 1080p for tablets

5G Ultra Wideband network access is only available in parts of select cities. Verizon has a full list of available cities here. An overwhelming majority of customers will not have regular access to this network. Verizon's slower nationwide 5G network is available in over 2700 cities and most people will have access to it.

The multi-line discounts are available to customers who have multiple Verizon Prepaid data only plans without a phone plan and to customers who are adding a data only plan to their prepaid phone plan. If you have two data only plans without a phone plan, the first data only line will pay full price. Lines two and beyond will receive the discounted rate. If you have a phone plan with one data only line, you WILL receive the discounted rate on the data only line.

There is a data prioritization policy in place for the plans. The fine print states that "in times of congestion, your data may be temporarily slower than other traffic." Data is unlimited on all plans. Customers that go over their plans high-speed data allotment will have their data speeds reduced to 600Kbps when connected to the 4G LTE or nationwide 5G networks. When connected to the Ultra Wideband 5G network, customers that go over their plan's data allotment will have data speeds reduced to 3Mbps.

The new data only plans replace the following plans:

  • $40/month - 6GB high-speed data, $10/month multi-line discount was available as was $5/month autopay discount.
  • $50/month - 16GB high-speed data, $15/month multi-line discount was available as was $5/month autopay discount.
  • $70/month - 30GB high-speed data, $20/month multi-line discount was available as was $5/month autopay discount.

Comparing the old plans to the new plans there are a couple of other notable highlighted changes to point out. The new plans no longer offer a $5/month auto-pay discount. Also, multi-line discounts are now a flat rate of $30/off per line as opposed to differing multi-line discount rates being offered depending on what plan the customer subscribed to. There were no loyalty discounts offered on the old plans. The new plans also lack customer loyalty discounts.

So let me understand.I can get 10GB for $20 so long as I am willing to spread that across 2 different lines (phones)?

How does this service compare with Visible? I pay $25 a month with Visible but I rarely use more than 10GB a month. The depriroitization on visible is super bad at times, I wonder if this is any better. If it is better I’d switch.
