The offer first made an appearance in December of 2018 and since then it has disappeared periodically. Tech enthusiast Mil Hustles noticed that the offer recently returned.
According to a SlickDeals thread where the original Simple Mobile open box iPhone offer was first posted, many who purchased the devices report the phones were sold to them unlocked. One thing to note is that open box is implied to mean used for a brief period of time before being returned by the customer. In the case of Simple Mobile, open box implies having been used for 7 days or less, as that is what their customer return policy is. However, some users in the aforementioned thread say the devices they received looked more like they were used items instead of barely used open box items. Unfortunately, the promo code SAVE25 did not seem to work with these offers when I attempted to use it, but it did with other devices on sale.
