Mint Mobile has launched a $20/month truly unlimited 5G data plan promo for new customers. TThe offer had been available for several weeks exclusively through Best Buy stores, but it’s now live on the Mint Mobile website. It’s currently the cheapest unlimited plan available for single lines on the T-Mobile network—but is it the right fit for you?

Before getting into that let's go over what this plan comes with.

What You Get with the Plan

  • Truly unlimited 5G data, however, data is deprioritized. Your data might slow down when the network is busy compared to customers that have a plan with priority data. Customers using more than 35GB of data in a month will have their data further deprioritized.
  • 10GB of hotspot
  • 480p video streaming
  • Unlimited talk and text with 3GB of data each month to use exclusively in Canada
  • $240 prepayment required for a full year of service
  • Taxes and fees extra

Given that taxes and fees are not included in the price, I would expect most people to have to pay somewhere between $275-$300 for the actual cost of the plan, which averages out to around $23-$25 per month. The plan normally costs $360/year (or $30/month) when not on promo.

I'm not a big fan of annual plans because they lock you into a provider which may cause you to miss out on a better deal or promo elsewhere. And if you end up being unhappy with the service and do decide to leave, you can't get a refund. You also have to fork over a larger upfront payment. Still, if you're okay with those drawbacks, the savings might be worth it.

How It Compares to Other Unlimited Plans

In terms of truly unlimited data plans on the T-Mobile network, there's really only one other provider that can compete with this offer, and that's Metro by T-Mobile. Metro by T-Mobile also offers a truly unlimited 5G data plan but it is restricted to bring your own device customers. It costs $25/month but taxes and fees ARE included in the price. Just like the Mint Mobile plan, Metro's does not include any priority data, and after 35GB your data speeds are further deprioritized. Videos also stream in 480p.

What is different is that this plan does not include any hotspot data, and you don't get any Canada roaming. You do get access to the T-Mobile Tuesday's customer perks program that's missing from Mint Mobile. So whether or not Metro or Mint's offer is better for you will depend on your own personal needs. If you don't need hotspot or Canada roaming, Metro will be the better option since you don't have to prepay for an annual plan. Plus you can get in store customer support with Metro if you value that, something that's unavailable with Mint Mobile.

Mint Mobile's plan does have competition from other networks including deals from Total Wireless, Visible, and US Mobile. All offer truly unlimited data with prices in a range of $20-$30/month. You can compare them all in depth on BestMVNO's truly unlimited data plans comparison page.

Mint Mobile has not specified when its promotional offer will end. If you are interested in it, you can pick it up here.

Last May, Mint Mobile was acquired by T-Mobile for around $1.35 billion. That acquisition is what enabled Mint Mobile to be able to launch a truly unlimited data plan. Mint's unlimited data plan was released in February 2025.
