Metro by T-Mobile has several holiday ads that star a new spokesperson in Puerto Rican singer, actor, and television host Luis Fonsi. One of the ads states Metro has the largest selection of free 5G phones in prepaid for the holidays. The other highlights a free 5G tablet offer. Both ads are airing in both Spanish and English versions. The ads have collectively aired over 600 times since launching in late November. Wave7 Research detailed the ads in a recent prepaid report that the firm sent out to its subscribers.

Metro by T-Mobile's Free 5G Phones TV Ad

One of the new ads featuring the most free 5G phones in prepaid pitch is titled "Even More Savings." It has Fonsi singing to the melody of the song "So Happy Together" through a restaurant. Of course, the lyrics have been changed to pitch Metro's service. The commercial starts off with Fonsi stating "with Metro" followed by his singing of the words "imagine even more savings and more video calling and more sharing. Every memory so happy together." The ad finishes with another person doing a voiceover informing viewers that they can "choose from the largest selection of free 5G phones only at Metro." You can watch the ad below.

Free 5G Tablet TV Ad

Metro's new TV ad pitching the free 5G tablet offer is basically identical to the one just described. It also features Fonsi singing the same altered lyrics to "So Happy Together" around a restaurant although slightly different scenery is used. It finishes with a voiceover informing viewers that they can "get a free 5G tablet, only at Metro." You can watch the full ad below.

The Hiring Of Luis Fonsi By Metro by T-Mobile Is One Of Several Moves Made By The Brand To Target The Hispanic Market

The hiring of Fonsi as a spokesperson is significant and follows several other moves recently made by Metro to target Hispanic audiences and expand the brand's reach into Puerto Rico. In November, BestMVNO reported that Metro by T-Mobile was expanding into Puerto Rico. Stores have already been opened in the territory, and Metro hopes to have 30 exclusive stores there by year's end. Many of the same offers and services will be available in Puerto Rico that are stateside including free 5G phones. Customers in Puerto Rico will also be able to pick up tablets, and hotspots.

Metro has actually also launched its first set of video ads airing in the territory. There are at least three ads airing in Puerto Rico. It is unclear if they are airing both on TV and online or just online. Metro by T-Mobile's YouTube channel shows the ads have aired through that platform almost 300,000 times. You can check out the playlist of video ads airing in Puerto Rico here.

Back in July, Metro by T-Mobile added VIX+ as a partner. VIX+ is a Spanish-language video streaming platform that features sports, news, and original programming. Customers on a phone plan priced at $40 or higher get a free year of VIX+ on Metro.

“Metro by T-Mobile kept its powder dry for a while, but in late November, launched two TV ads, one pitching the familiar theme of “the largest selection of free 5G phones in prepaid” and the other pitching the holiday free tablet offer. The carrier’s entry into Puerto Rico should help with net adds, going forward.” – Jeff Moore, Principal of Wave7 Research

Louis Fonsi is the wrong choice. To me , auto tune shows a lack of talent. Each time the commercial comes on , I turn the volume down or leave the room.

One of the ads in the Puerto Rico playlist features Luis Fonsi, but he isn’t singing in it. The article seemed to say that the 2 Luis Fonsi Metro by TMobile ads were released in both Spanish and English versions, and since I’m bilingual, I’d like to see links to the Spanish versions of those ads.
