Amazon is currently selling Amazon Prime memberships for $73/year, a discount of $26 off the regular price.

Amazon Prime members get the following:

  • Free two day shipping, no need to spend $35 for free shipping.  Amazon often throws you a free dollar to use towards digital purchases and other items if you're willing to forego free two day shipping for a particular order.
  • Access to thousands of movies and TV shows
  • Access to millions of songs, including newly released to online streaming, The Beatles catalogue.
  • Access to special sales/discounts and deals.
  • Over 800,000 ebooks
  • Unlimited photo storage

As an Amazon Prime member (and disclosure, Amazon affiliate) I can tell you the best thing about the membership to me is the free two day shipping, and at times cheap next day shipping.

Some of the other perks, particularly the music and video streaming services are designed to upsell you more movies and music. For instance with the music, you may find many artists don't come included with the service, but rather, you must buy their digital albums to listen.  For those of you that are Beatles fans, you'll be happy to know their music is at least included with membership.

Amazon does the same thing with its streaming video service.  For some shows you can watch an episode for free, but you have to pay extra for the rest. Some movies show as available in your account but you have to pay for them. Amazon does have several original series that it produces including Golden Globe winner   "Mozart in the Jungle: Sex, Drugs & Classical Music."

This promotion is for new customers and will last until January 17th at 11:59pm PT.
