The company closed out 2025 with over 50 stores, a number that may double in 2026.

Consumer Cellular continues to open branded stores, and they are opening them at a rapid pace. The brand seems to be announcing new store openings nearly every other day. In fact, thus far in January, Consumer Cellular has announced 14 new store openings through its blog.

If you are in one of the following locations, a store has either just opened by you or is about to:

  • Metaire, LA
  • Warren, MI
  • Murray, UT
  • Irmo, SC
  • Davenport, IA
  • Vancouver, WA
  • Mishawaka, IN
  • Haute, IN
  • Ashwaubenon, WI
  • Shreveport, LA
  • Olympia, WA
  • Appleton, WI
  • Champaign, IL
  • Oklahoma City, OK

In May 2025, BestMVNO reported that Consumer Cellular store openings were beginning to accelerate. In April 2024, the company had 25 stores opened, and by May of 2025 the number jumped to 40. By the end of July, the number hit 50 with plans announced to hit 100 by the end of 2026, a goal that they seem likely to smash given the openings announced this month alone.

Jeff Moore, Principal of Wave7 Research previously told BestMVNO that stores have been setup with updated electronics, experienced reps, and an area designed to help close sales. If you head on over to a Consumer Cellular store, you can be helped and made comfortable by taking a seat on a store sofa while enjoying a free cup of coffee on the house.

Consumer Cellular Plan Updates

Aside from the store openings, Consumer Cellular has also reduced the price of one of its "unlimited" plans. Single line customers ages 50+ can now get a Consumer Cellular unlimited plan for $35/month. It was previously priced at $40/month. It comes with unlimited talk, text, and data, but only the first 35GB is available at up to 5G data speeds before speeds are throttled to up to 512Kbps. The price of Consumer Cellular's unlimited plan was also reduced in September 2025, from $50/month to $40/month. However, this plan at one point did include 50GB of high-speed data, so there was a data cut along the way as well. The highlighted prices include a $5/month autopay billing discount.

Although Consumer Cellular has lowered the price of this plan for customers ages 50+, customers ages 18-49 will still have to pay a hefty price tag for it. The plan will cost you $60/month if you fit into that age group. Taxes and fees are extra.

The large difference in price is due to younger persons being perceived as more likely to use up all of their data. And that would cost Consumer Cellular more money.

2nd Month Free Offer

If you are interested in trying out Consumer Cellular they are offering a special promotion through at least 2/15/26 to switchers. Customers that switch to Consumer Cellular and use the code 2NDFREE at checkout will get their second month of service for free. The free lines offer is available for all lines in a customer's account. The offer is available on all plans and it is a deal the company regularly runs.

Although Consumer Cellular is considered an independent MVNO, a firm out of Chicago, GTCR, took a majority ownership stake in the company in 2020 at a price tag of $2.3 billion. At the time of the acquisition, Consumer Cellular had 4 million subscribers, a number that's likely to have barely budged since then. In May 2025, BestMVNO noted that a page on the Consumer Cellular website stated they had 4.2 million customers. The rapid pace of store openings is clearly an attempt to push growth forward.

Consumer Cellular is a wireless provider known as an MVNO that uses AT&T’s network for coverage. Most MVNOs avoid opening branded retail stores due to the high costs and added overhead. Backed by GTCR and supported by premium plan pricing, Consumer Cellular is one of the few independent MVNOs with the financial flexibility to pursue a physical retail strategy.
