RedPocket Mobile has made significant updates to its plan lineup as the company marks its 20th anniversary. The MVNO has discontinued its $50/month highest-priced plan and increased data allotments on its three remaining core plans, keeping prices unchanged. They've also announced holiday shopping deals.
The most eye opening change is with their $30 plan. It now includes unlimited data, but with a couple of catches, and an industry first that I have to imagine most people will be more than happy to live with.
The first 50GB of data each month will be at unthrottled 5G data speeds then speeds will be reduced for the remainder of the billing cycle to a maximum of 150Mbps! This is the fastest throttled data I've ever seen in a plan and will be fast enough for every day tasks including video streaming. Besides the throttle to 150Mbps, the other catch is those speeds are only available if you use the plan on the AT&T network. If you use the plan on either the Verizon or T-Mobile networks, after 50GB your throttled data speeds will be reduced to 64kbps to 512Kbps. The plan allows for 10GB of data to be used for mobile hotspot, up from the previous allotment of 5GB.
Finally, the updated plan includes QCI-8 priority data.
RedPocket Plan Updates
$10 Plan
- High-speed data increased from 1GB to 3GB of 5G data
- Includes unlimited talk and text, international calling, and roaming in Canada and Mexico
- Price remains $10/month
This plan continues to serve light data users who prioritize low cost and nationwide coverage on any of the three major carrier networks.
$20 Plan
- High-speed data doubled from 10GB to 20GB of 5G data
- Includes unlimited talk and text, international calling, and roaming in Canada and Mexico
- Price remains $20/month
RedPocket says this is a popular mid-tier plan and calls it an "an even better fit for the modern mobile user, combining a larger 5G data allocation with strong international long distance and roaming options."
$30 Plan
- 50GB of 5G data per month
- Speeds reduced to 180 Mbps after the 50GB threshold on AT&T, 64-512Kbps on other networks.
- Includes 10GB of hotspot data
- Price remains $30/month
“Our 20th anniversary is a moment of reflection and renewed commitment. What we’ve learned is that we must provide our customers with three Mobile Must-Haves – Coverage, Price, and Care – without paying for features they do not need”, said Joshua Gordon, CEO of RedPocket Mobile. “By removing our highest price point plan and increasing the value of our remaining service tiers, we are proving that a wireless service built on listening is simply better.”
The company states its plan changes are a result of two decades spent learning how its customers actually use their phones and are a dedicated effort to eliminate unnecessary complexity and cost.

Editor's Take
RedPocket's plan changes are highly competitive and notable for the industry. Unlimited data with throttled data speeds to 150Mbps are unprecedented and game changing in the MVNO space. Most plans with throttled data have them reduced to between 64Kbps to 512Kbps making them virtually unusable for most tasks to barely usable for some tasks in the higher speed range.
The unlimited data throttle exclusively on the AT&T network is also notable and may be another signal that AT&T is loosening its wholesale and MVNO restrictions allowing MVNOs to be much more competitive across the entire market. Earlier this year, US Mobile introduced AT&T-based unlimited high-speed data plans, something previously unavailable to most independent MVNOs on the network. Later, they expanded to offer unlimited data across all three major networks.
For the past year, most MVNOs have been under pressure and unable to compete against carrier owned prepaid brands that have been offering truly unlimited data plans at the $25/month price point where MVNOs typically thrive. If AT&T continues to allow its partners to deliver higher-capacity or truly unlimited 5G options, independent brands like RedPocket may finally be able to compete more directly with MNO-owned prepaid offerings such as Metro by T-Mobile and Total Wireless among others.
