Best Buy and Google Fi have teamed up to offer customers Google Fi for free for the remainder of the year if they buy a Google Pixel from Best Buy. The offer even applies to customers who have previously purchased a Google Pixel from Best Buy. The firm Wave7 Research detailed the offer in a new prepaid report it sent to its subscribers.

Offer Details And Fine Print

In order to qualify for the deal customers must purchase a new and unlocked Google Pixel phone from Best Buy before 12/30/22. The Pixel 6a, 7, and 7 Pro are the only qualifying devices. Strangely, open-box and refurbished phones do not qualify for the offer.

If you have an eligible device you must activate service on a Fi unlimited plan as a new customer by 12/30/22 at 11:59 PM PST. The free service promotion started on October 7th. However, Google will allow you to activate a Pixel and get free service as long as it was purchased at Best Buy on July 28, 2022, or later.

Customers who get the free service must remain on a Fi unlimited plan for the duration of the offer and cannot switch the offer to a different Fi account. The deal is only available to US residents aged 18 and up and requires the use of Google Pay with Google Fi. Only one offer can be redeemed per person.

Google and Best Buy are advertising the offer in stores. Some Best Buy locations have Google Fi displays set up showcasing the deal. Wave7 Research first noted the marketing of the deal in stores with signage on 10/27.

“This is a holiday offer from Google Fi, but this really is an effort from Google to link its Pixel 7 push to its Google Fi MVNO and try to boost sales of both for the holidays. Wave7 Research is seeing signage for this at some Best Buy stores. Google Fi has a couple million subscribers, as Recon Analytics has reported, so its efforts are worth monitoring.” – Jeff Moore, Principal of Wave7 Research

In September, BestMVNO noted that Google Fi was offering a similar promotion to its former customers. Those customers don't need to purchase a device but have been given the opportunity to get free service for the remainder of the year if they switch back to Google Fi.
