Lyca Mobile is preparing to launch another brand, Cube Mobile as noted by Osiris Rodriguez on X and mentioned in a new prepaid report from the firm Wave7 Research. Cube Mobile will launch on the AT&T network, in contrast to Lyca Mobile which operates on T-Mobile.

Late last summer, BestMVNO reported that Lyca Mobile might switch to AT&T's network; however, rather than switching networks, Lyca Mobile has decided to introduce this separate brand. Like Lyca Mobile which operates in several countries, Cube Mobile appears to be a global brand as well. There is already a Cube Mobile MVNO operational in Spain. A Cube Mobile USA app is listed in the Google Play store.

Cube Mobile will appear to follow Mint Mobile's model for success by offering four wireless plans with a focus on multi-month offerings although monthly plans will still be an option. They'll operate as an online only brand.

Cube Mobile's flagship plan will cost just $24/month when paid for annually with 25GB of data at 5G data speeds before throttling to 256Kbps. Video streaming will be at 480p.

There is currently a preview website up where you can see all of Cube Mobile's upcoming plans at https://sanchay-mobile.mobilelyca.com/. I don't know how long that website will be up, but once the brand is officially launched you'll be able to sign up for Cube Mobile at cubemobile.us.

Here's a full breakdown of Cube Mobile's planned offerings. Plans may be subject to change before an official launch takes place.

1GB15GB25GB50GB
Monthly $$15$25$35$50
3-Month $$14$20$28$40
6-Month $$12$18$26$35
12-Month $$10$16$24$30

All plans come with unlimited talk and text to over 100 global destinations. Taxes and fees are extra. Video streaming is limited to 480p. It's not clear if hotspot will be available with the plans although a terms and conditions page on the test website does make mention of hotspot. All plans are believed to have a throttle of 256Kbps after the high-speed data limits are reached.

Data top-ups look like they'll be available priced as follows:

  • 10GB - $20
  • 5GB - $10
  • 2GB - $5

Also like Mint Mobile, it looks like there will be new customer introductory offers in place such as being able to purchase the 25GB plan for $15/month for three months.

Editor's Take

This new brand from Lyca Mobile looks like it will provide meaningful competition in the MVNO marketplace for service on AT&T's network. They might not have the absolute best pricing for an AT&T MVNO but they are still pretty cheap, especially when you pay for an annual plan.

I'm not particularly fond of annual plans myself due to the bigger upfront payment required and the possibility of missing out on a better offer that later comes out elsewhere. However, they do offer a way to help keep costs down for consumers while locking in a more long term revenue source for providers.

“This upcoming launch of the Cube Mobile brand, paired with a recent report from Light Reading about the MVNO’s 2025 growth plans, seems to signal significant ambition from Lyca Mobile.  We at Wave7 Research will closely monitor this progress.” – Jeff Moore, Principal of Wave7 Research
