Boost Mobile has updated its mobile hotspot plan options. A total of three new plans have been added to Boost's hotspot lineup.
Boost Mobile's new hotspot plans start at $15/month. That starting price gets customers 2GB of high-speed data. A summary of Boost's hotspot plans follows below.
- $15/mo - 2GB
- $20/mo - 5GB
- $25/mo - 7GB
- $50/mo - 35GB
Previously, only the $50/month, 35GB plan was offered. Taxes and fees are included in the prices shown. Customers can add extra data to any plan at a cost of $5 for 1GB and $10 for 2GB.
Unfortunately, Boost's hotspot plans can only be used with a limited number of hotspot devices and only one hotspot device is sold by Boost Mobile. If you want one of the hotspot plans above you can get them when you purchase an Alcatel Linkzone 2 from Boost Mobile online for $9.99. The device has a list price of $49.99. It has a 4400mAh battery and can give connectivity to up to 16 devices. It is for use on Boost Mobile's "Expanded Network" which is code for T-Mobile.
Boost's FAQs state the plans can also be used with the Franklin Mobile Hotspot T9, Coolpad MetroSMART, and Hotspot Puck.
Boost Mobile's new hotspot plans may have implications on how it markets to potential Affordable Connectivity Program customers (ACP). The new plans open the door to Boost offering more plans for free to qualifying customers. ACP qualifying subscribers get $30 in subsidies from the government to put towards a plan from a participating provider in the program, while those on Tribal lands get $75. Boost previously offered its $50 hotspot plan for free to customers who qualified for the government's ACP credit. But perhaps that may change moving forward.
So $15/month for 2GB of hotspot or $5/month for 5GB of phone/text/data/hotspot?
Does anyone at Boost actually check the terms of its own plans?
thanks for the coverage of this news… but unfortunately, it looks like a yawner… all but the top plan have exceptionally weak per gigabyte pricing. Boost is really disappointing these days.
