PureTalk has updated its wireless plans to streamline their naming to "Unlimited" for all but one, while adding enhancements to some plans such as free second numbers, and free tablet and watch plans. Previously, the company sold several phone plans branded with fixed amounts of high‑speed data (3GB, 5GB, 10GB, etc.). BestMVNO has been tracking PureTalk’s rate plans and deals for years. Here is a breakdown of what’s new, what’s gone and all the fine print you should know about.

New plan line‑up

PureTalk’s new line‑up is anchored by five monthly plans, four “Unlimited” tiers with different hotspot allowances and one “Basic” plan. All of them include unlimited talk and text and run on AT&T’s nationwide 5G network. Taxes and fees are extra on all plans, and speeds are reduced to 256kbps once you hit your high‑speed allotment. A summary of the new plans is shown below.

PureTalk refers to its $24.99 and $34.99 plans as Travel-Ready in 80+ destinations because you can purchase add-on credits for roaming.

Things to note

  • High‑speed data thresholds: PureTalk’s marketing now calls most of its plans “unlimited,” but each tier includes a finite amount of high‑speed usage before the 256Kbps throttle kicks in.
  • Hotspot allowances: All plans but the $24.99 plan include a hotspot allotment.
  • International benefits: Plans $44.99 and up include international roaming credits in 80+ countries and free calling and texting from the U.S. to international numbers. The international roaming credit amounts seem to have been increased at these price points compared to the older plans.
  • Bundles and device discounts: The higher tiers throw in hardware discounts and add‑on subscriptions. The $44.99 plan gives $100 off a phone and a choice of an Apple Watch plan or second phone number. The $54.99 plan ups the discount to $200 and includes both the watch plan and second number. The top $64.99 tier includes a $300 discount along with a watch plan, a tablet plan and a second phone number.

Outgoing Plan Highlights

Old plans were structured as follows:

  • 3GB Plan ($20/mo): Included 2GB of dedicated hotspot, priority data and international roaming credits. Apple Watch and tablet add‑ons cost $10 each.
  • 5GB Plan ($25/mo): Similar to the 3GB plan but with 5GB high‑speed data. Included 2GB hotspot.
  • 10GB and 15GB Plans ($30/$35): Provided 5GB of dedicated hotspot; high‑speed data allotments were 10GB and 15GB respectively.
  • 25GB Plan ($45/mo): Offered 25GB high‑speed data with 5GB of hotspot.
  • 60GB Plans ($55/$60): Both plans provided 60GB high‑speed data and larger hotspot buckets (25GB for the $55 tier and 30GB for the $60 tier)

Like the new plans, old plans were also throttled to 256Kbps after the high-speed allotments were reached.

Key Differences Between Old Plans Vs New

  • Unlimited branding vs. fixed data buckets: One of the differences is in plan marketing. PureTalk is now focused on marketing "unlimited data" as a way to better advertise against mainstream carrier brands even though their high-speed data allotments are still "limited".
  • Device bundling: Discounts on phones and add‑on watch/tablet lines are now tied directly to your plan. Earlier, watch and tablet lines cost $10 per month regardless of your phone plan. The higher unlimited tiers include those add‑ons for no additional charge and throw in up to $300 off a new phone.
  • Pricing shifts: The entry‑level cost has increased from $20 to $24.99 per month but now provides 7GB of high-speed data instead of 3GB for $20. At the high end, the $60/mo 60GB plan has been replaced by a $64.99 "unlimited" plan with 50GB of high‑speed data but now includes a free second phone number, free tablet plan, and free Apple watch plan.

Editor's Take

PureTalk’s latest lineup may look simpler on paper but in practice it muddies the waters by slapping “unlimited” on four tiers that cap high‑speed data at up to 50GB before throttling. The entry‑level $24.99 basic plan isn’t unlimited at all, it comes with 7GB of data and no hotspot allowance. Calling this portfolio “unlimited” isn’t the best way to help consumers understand what they’re actually buying. However, all other plan features are clearly laid out across their plan cards.

Where PureTalk is getting creative is in the extras. A free second phone number is offered at the $44.99 tier and up, and the two highest plans bundle Apple Watch and tablet lines. Most MVNOs and prepaid brands charge extra for those services, so if you have multiple devices or need a second line for business calls this could save you money.

That said, these perks don’t come cheap. PureTalk’s price points are higher than the old plans and still don’t approach the truly unlimited data offers from carrier‑owned prepaid brands that can be half the cost. With dozens of MVNOs vying for your attention, PureTalk seems to be targeting niche users, small business owners and consumers who value bundled extras over raw data volume. If you’re simply looking for the most data for your dollar, you’ll find better deals elsewhere. If you need the convenience of a second number or a watch/tablet plan baked in, PureTalk’s new “unlimited” bundles may be appealing.
