In early December, Mint Mobile quietly introduced a limited-time offer for new customers: 50% off its unlimited plan, bringing the cost down to $15/month for a full year when paid in advance. This amounts to $180 plus taxes and fees for 12 months of service. The offer is scheduled to be available until 1/2/2025.
The plan includes the following features:
- Unlimited Talk & Text
- Data: 40GB/month at 5G speeds before throttling to 3G (approximately 512Kbps).
- Video Streaming: 1.5Mbps (around 480p resolution).
- Hotspot: 10GB of data each month draws from the 40GB on device data allotment.
- International Calling & Texting Features: Free calls to Canada and Mexico, and free texts to 190+ countries.
- Canada Roaming: 3GB of high-speed data per month while roaming in Canada before speeds slow to 128Kbps.
Mint Mobile has numerous offers running right now, but this particular one is very low key with no major advertising for it that I'm aware of. This is in contrast to Mint Mobile's long running new customer offer of $15/month for 3 months on any Mint Mobile plan. This offer has been advertised on TV and elsewhere numerous times throughout the year. In fact, Mint Mobile has at least three holiday TV ads running right now to promote that offer including this newly released "Teddy Ruxpin" ad.
After 12 months the plan can be renewed for another 12 months at $30/month.
How Does This Deal Compare?
As long as you don't mind paying for a year of service in advance, this is a great offer from Mint Mobile. Mint Mobile is a T-Mobile owned prepaid brand, and you cannot currently find more data for less money on the T-Mobile network than what this plan provides. However, there are some other offers out there on the T-Mobile network that you may want to consider.
One offer is another annual plan from the T-Mobile owned prepaid brand, Ultra Mobile. They are offering a truly unlimited 5G data plan without the high-speed data cap the Mint Mobile plan has for $20/month or $240 plus taxes and fees when prepaid for annually. Aside from the truly unlimited data that the plan offers, it will also provide a step up in value in other areas for some customers. Namely, it includes unlimited talk and text usage in Mexico and Canada, a $5 international call credit each month, unlimited talk to over 90 countries, unlimited texting to global numbers, plus a one time $5 international roaming credit. Like the Mint Mobile plan, it allows 10GB of data to be used for hotspot, and videos stream at 480p. However, data usage in Canada is not included but is available at a roaming rate of 2 cents per MB. If you use more than 35GB of data during a monthly billing cycle you may experience temporarily slower data speeds during times that the network is being heavily used.
Now if you don't want a plan that you have to prepay for annually and still want unlimited data you can switch to Metro by T-Mobile's $25/month unlimited plan that includes taxes and fees. This is for single line customers only.
Mint Mobile, Ultra Mobile, and Metro by T-Mobile are all brands owned by big wireless. If you prefer to be with an independent provider on the T-Mobile network not owned by big wireless, there are other offers out there as highlighted in this article about Tello Mobile's 45GB limited time plan offer.
