T-Mobile MVNO Cell Phone Plans Compared

    Updated: Dec 5, 2016

If you don’t travel a lot and therefore don’t need great nationwide data coverage T-Mobile Prepaid and T-mobile based 4G LTE MVNO’s are a great choice.  You’ll find that these MVNO’s allow far more 4G/LTE data consumption than the other carriers MVNOs.

One of the issues with T-mobile is that the cellular frequencies they use don’t penetrate buildings as well as the other networks do. Consequently, if you read various forums you’ll notice some users complain about a loss of signal indoors.  This isn’t an issue that affects everyone though.  T-mobile has two options to remedy this problem for themselves and their MVNOs, use a lower spectrum frequency, which they have begun to do thanks to the the 700 mHz frequency that they are deploying 1)operation on this frequency requires a compatible device(otherwise known as band 12) and the other thing they can do is to add more towers.

Those who want to benefit from T-Mobile’s expanded 700 mHz frequency will need a compatible device to do so.  Likewise, you’ll need to live close to a geographic location that supports the 700mHz spectrum.

Those issues aside, I still feel T-mobile’s $30 no contract cell phone plan, a Walmart exclusive is one of the best values around and it is the service that I have been using for the past two years.  There is no other provider on the market that offers more high speed data for less as a regular cell phone plan.  The 100 minute voice limit is easy to circumvent as described here and now here. T-mobile also allows you to go over the talk limit at a rate of 10c a minute on this plan.

In terms of the database compilation below, any plans that offered less than 1 GB of data were not included in this price comparison list. If you are looking for a family share plan, have a look at this list of family phone plans that utilize T-Mobile’s network.

    I found https://www.harbormobile.com/plans/

unlimited talk, text & 2.5 GB LTE data for $30. The 2.5GB is only for 2015, then it’ll drop to 1gb.

You’re currently still utilizing T-Mobile’s $30 prepaid plan which includes 5GB of data/100 minutes of talk time correct?

Have you noticed any degradation of call quality over data whether day or night? How about your data speeds up/down if you do not exceed the allotted 5GB per month?

I am surprised that MetroPCS offers no unlimited global sms, in or out since they are owned by T-Mobile who offers it even on their MVNOs. What are these marketing guys/gals thinking….

@bestmvnocom:disqus Number 6 in the fine print above does not mention that Lycamobile does not support short code. I’m currently a Lycamobile customer and cannot receive short code sms. I emailed them and called and confirmed that Lyca does not support short code. Do you know of a list on this site or elsewhere that lists which MVNOs support and do not support short code sms? that would be so helpful! thanks.

rank #2 and #15 are not listed. it is in the fine print, but not in your chart. although maybe the reason is brightspot is rumored to be discontinued. http://www.prepaidphonenews.com/2015/05/rumor-target-shutting-brightspot-mobile.html

also, theres a rumor that the 100mb tethering cap for #1 might be lifted http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1865269-No-New-Tethering-on-30-5Gig-100-minute-plan

@bestmvnocom:disqus Back in late 2014 I had used Ultra Mobile services. I was on the $19 monthly plan. I assumed that all fees were included but the following month the cost went up. Per Ultra’s website they now collect a Regulatory Recovery Fee of $1 and Sales and Use Tax. My monthly bill ended up being $21.56 per month. Not sure if other MVNOs just absorb the cost of these fees for their customers to stay competitive or not? An example are AirVoice’s & Ptel’s $20 monthly plan. I paid no other fees with these guys. Are they absorbing the… Read more »

I’ve been to the site and like the offerings there, is it a MVNO or just reseller? I’d guess reseller cause for business as I see in print. Nice concept and different than offering than I’ve seen by many otters.

Robert Villanueva – Plus mention bestmvno.com and you will get your 3 rd month free! Is this like pay for two and get three months service and are all plans offered here for this 3 for 2 cost? So do I remind you in my third month it’s free or do I pay upfront for two months so it’s easy to all (you and me) and no reminder needed – or option of both pay now in full (2 months) and also by the month to month? Is there a renewal of this offer in any fashion like prepaying 6,… Read more »

I had trouble with TPO occasionally dropping the network connection. Tried the sim in a couple of different phones but still experienced the same problem. Switched to Pure Talk with uses AT&T’s network and haven’t had that problem since.
